Training - Mewp Vehicle Safety

Introduction

This course aims to give learners the knowledge, skills and understanding in the inspection of mobile elevated work platforms (MEWPs). It introduces learners to the hazards and potential risks involved with MEWPs and to comply with health and safety legislation.
The target audience is aimed at those working on the telecoms network including suppliers and contractors.

Performance Objectives

  • Use suitable personal protective equipment throughout all MEWP inspection activities
  • Use suitable sources of technical information to support MEWP inspection activities
  • Confirm that equipment has been calibrated to meet manufacturers’ and legal requirements
    where necessary
  • Carry out systematic MEWP inspections following workplace procedures and health and
    safety requirements
  • Conduct all MEWP testing following: the manufacturer’s instructions; the recognised test
    method; your workplace procedure and health and safety requirements
  • Ensure your comparison of the MEWP against specification accurately identifies any:
    differences from the MEWP specification; MEWP appearance and condition faults;
    non-compliance with statutory requirements
  • Work in a way which minimises the risk of damage to the MEWP and its systems, other
    people and their property
  • Make suitable recommendations for future action based upon the results of your tests and
    inspections
  • Ensure your records are accurate, complete and passed to the relevant person (s)
    promptly in the format required
  • Complete all inspection activities within the agreed timescale and to specification
  • Report any anticipated delays in completion to the relevant person(s) in authority
    promptly

SAFE PRACTICE

It is the responsibility of the centre, in consultation with the trainer and assessor, to ensure that risk assessments have been carried out. During this training you must take account of the relevant worksite operational requirements, procedures and safe working practices.

1-day training/refresher. Trainer/delegate 1:8 Practical assessment (30 minutes). Knowledge Assessment(30 minuites)

ACCREDITATION

Upon successful achievement learners will be issued with a Smart Awards certificate valid for 3 years.


ASSESSMENT

The assessment will test the learners knowledge and skills in inspection of mobile elevated work platforms (MEWPs). It introduces learners to the hazards and potential risks involved with MEWPs and health and safety legislation.
