Awarding Policies

These policies ensure our processes are fair, consistent, and compliant with regulatory standards. Apprenticeship assessment policies
Welcome to the Smart Awards Apprenticeship Assessment Policies. This area outlines the key policies that govern the delivery, assessment, and awarding of our apprenticeship assessment policies. These policies ensure our processes are fair, consistent, and compliant with regulatory standards. Whether you are a learner, training provider, or employer, we encourage you to review these policies to understand your responsibilities and our commitment to quality and integrity.
Centre Recognition – Smart Awards
To offer Smart Awards qualifications, organisations must first become an approved centre.
- Who Can Apply: Any organisation, in the UK or internationally, regardless of size or type, can apply for centre recognition.
- How to Apply: Submit a completed online application. If your organisation meets the requirements, Smart Awards will approve you as a recognised centre.
- Requirements: Centres must show they can meet Smart Awards’ policies, terms and conditions, and quality standards, including qualification-specific guidelines.
- Approval Process: Your application will go through checks and risk assessment.
If needed, a centre visit will be arranged.
You’ll be assigned a Smart Awards External Quality Assurer (EQA).
If approved, you’ll receive login details for your online centre profile. - Responsibilities: Ensure your staff are qualified to assess and deliver the qualifications.
Keep up with Smart Awards’ policies, fees, and learner registrations.
Ensure secure access to your centre profile and documents. - Ongoing Monitoring: Centres are regularly reviewed to ensure continued compliance. Risk assessments may lead to further audits or visits.
- Qualification Approval: Once your centre is recognised, you must also gain approval for each qualification you wish to offer.
- Inactive Centres: If no learners are registered for two years, recognition will lapse and a new application will be required.
- Appeals: If your application is declined, you can appeal through the Smart Awards appeals process.
- Sanctions: Centres not meeting requirements may face actions, including the withdrawal of recognition.

Smart Awards Customised Qualifications give you peace of mind that your in-house training meets recognised standards for safety and compliance.
As part of this service, we map your course content to relevant national or industry standards. We formalise the qualification level, learning outcomes, assessment criteria, and supporting assessment materials.
While we don’t create or develop your course content or assessments, we ensure that all materials meet our quality assurance standards. Gaining Smart Awards endorsement demonstrates that you’re training consistently delivers a high-quality learning experience, equipping learners with the necessary knowledge, skills, and behaviours.
